The Angel’s Depot
As we look forward to celebrating our 2nd Anniversary on May 31, 2008, we continued to be amazed at the progress we have made with your help. You, our friends in the community, have given us the strength, courage, food, funds and hands to provide 239,006 senior meals . . . 21 meals in a box, at a time. . . what a spectacular accomplishment in less than 24 months! On behalf of all the "quiet heroes" we serve, thank YOU!
On Saturday, May 31, we kick-off our 2nd Annual "Barnstormin' BBQ" in the Wal-Mart Vista parking lot, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a fun family event . . . a much needed fundraising day for The Angel's Depot. The activities include: KSON Radio LIVE Remote, "Nitro Express" Country Rock Band, HUGE RUMMAGE SALE, Fun Ride '94 Bright Red Chevy Blazer Sport Giveaway (low miles, great condition), Mechanical Bull Rides & Ridin' Contest, Budweiser Saloon (complements of Markstein Beverage Co.), Luscious Jimmy's BBQ Buffet, Pepsi Booth, FLY-IT Helicopter Flight Simulator Rides, Grandpa's Petting Zoo, 25' Rock Climb, Inflatable Bounce . . . and much more . . . come join the fun and do a little shoppin' while you're there!
The Angel's Day at the Del Mar Races will be here before you know it! On Monday, July 21 (first week Del Mar Races are open) we have our fabulous day in the Il Palio Room in the Del Mar Turf Club . . . this year we have included a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, Beverage, Roll and a trip to their infamous Dessert Bar along with your Turf Club Seat over the Finish Line, Race Program and "Horse Box" Opportunity Drawings after each Race (1st-2nd-3rd Prizes). $100 per person, number of tickets is limited and going fast. Our special holiday gift for you this year is a WWII vintage Christmas . . . the music, the magic, the glitter and romance . . . an era of heroes . . . an evening of memories.
I'd like to share with you an editorial I recently wrote for the North County Times entitled, "When the Angels Cry." This was a very difficult piece to write. I spent a gut-wrenching day trying to get all the words out and down. Sometimes you have to tell the community the difficult truths and ask the tough questions. I welcome your comments.
